Science or evidence-based couples therapy is both a structured and yet fluid approach to relationship and marriage counseling. It's designed to reorient your relationship and marriage towards emotional connection, trust, intimacy and commitment. In therapy, you will learn to fight fair and resolve conflict, develop relationship goals, and let go of the past so each person can heal.
In couples and relationship counseling, the couple is viewed as a "fluid system" where partners affect each other, often in unknown ways or even deliberately. Relationships are much like a dance where one partners' movement influences that of the other partner. It is these dynamics or interactional patterns (dance steps) where most issues start (e.g., chronic fights, addictions, an affair, emotional distance).
Couples therapy won't be easy, in fact, it will likely be hard—you'll be challenged to think and act in ways that run counter to the "reactions or solutions" (e.g., anger, detachment, arguing, blaming, addiction, affair) that have created or worsened the problems. In the end, however, it may well be the most rewarding and life changing experience you'll ever have, and it might lead to the relationship you can fully enjoy.

Step 2: Make your first appointment. It all starts with an assessment of the relationship--its strengths, problem areas, how it got here, and barriers to growth and harmony. At the end of the assessment, you'll have a good idea of where your relationship is, thereby giving you an opportunity to see what the work will entail..
Step 3: Once you commit, we set realistic, practical and challenging goals, for each of you--and for the relationship. We'll also develop an action plan based on these goals.
Step 4: Start your journey of discovery, healing, intimacy, commitment, connection, and growth. This is where the real work begins.
Step 5: Learn to put your changes and growth into daily practice. Develop skills for maintaining the changes you both created.
